Another domain name scam doing the rounds this morning, suggesting that someone is trying to register the domain of our company name, The fact that they think our company name is wearekuiper goes to show how in part this scam works.
They are scraping lists of domain names and have found that we own wearekuiper.com, but wearekuiper.cn (for example) might be available. So off goes a scary email suggesting that they are giving us first refusal. This however is where they make their money, they will charge significantly more than the big registrars charge, often 10 or even 100 times more.
Dear Manager,
We are an agency engaging in registering brand name and domain names. Our center received an application from {Random Company Name} and they apply to register wearekuiper as their brand name and some top-level domain names. We found the main body of domain names is same as your company name. I am not sure about the relationship between you and them. Please tell me whether or not your company authorizes them to register names.
We are dealing with the application and we need to confirm whether you have authorized them? If you don’t authorize them, please reply me an e-mail. Looking forward to your reply.
