Every web designer has their own process, but they often follow a similar pattern where they “take turns” with the client to each do their bit, sometimes the client will be more involved, i.e. writing their own content, sometimes less so.

This is our basic process, from start to finish.

At the beginning of the project we have a discovery phase, this is where we collect all the information (often called deliverables) we need to build the website, We’ll provide the client with a list of things we’ll need and provide guidance, however we cannot move on until the information is provided.

This may include:

  • Logo
  • Colour Scheme
  • Site Map
  • Content
  • Photos
  • Product Information

Phase 1

This is the start of the build, here we’ll put together the basic framework of the site, by the end of this phase the client will have something they can see and provide feedback on.

Usually this will include building the following sections:

  • Header
  • Footer
  • Home Page
  • Content Page
  • Product Page *

* In the case of ecommerce sites

Phase 2

Once you are happy with the prototypes built in phase 1 we continue the rest of the build, constructing the rest of the pages and linking up the navigation so that you can browse round the site as your visitors would do.

Phase 3

This phase is where you have the opportunity to review your site and make minor amends*, we’ll repeat this phase up to 3 times before asking for your final sign off.

* Not to be confused with scope creep.

Once the site is complete and you are happy with everything that has been done we’ll invoice you for any outstanding balance and once received set your site live on the internet.

Client touch points

This is your opportunity to provide feedback on your site. We use a tool built into your test site so that you can leave your feedback on the site itself, speeding up the process significantly. You can see this feedback tool in action here.

One important thing to note is that it is often the client touch points that cause the website build to overrun. For example if we have proposed a 10 day build time, and it takes 5 days for you to provide your content you would now be looking at a 15 day build time.
