I had a meeting with a potential client on Monday evening, a client that had been referred to me and was looking to instruct someone to build a website. From a sales point of view it was about as good a lead as you can get. So we had a chat about what he thought he wanted and how his business worked so I could get a proper understanding of his business model and how exactly the website would work for him.

The truth is… it wouldn’t.

Not that their was anything wrong with his business model, that made perfect sense. It was his delivery model that wasn’t right, like many people he believed that a website was the right way to get what he was selling in-front of his desired audience and in this case it wasn’t.

I suppose the point of this little post is to remind people that the internet isn’t just websites, and not every business need or even should have a website in this companies case YouTube was the right medium to get his message across and the website was completely unnecessary.

So before you splash out on a website consider your options.

  • YouTube
  • Vimeo
  • Etsy
  • Ebay
  • Amazon Shops
  • Facebook

All of these and more are perfectly valid solutions for running an online business, don’t let anyone tell you that you have to have a website, but if you think you do… make sure you get some honest advice.

Can we help?
