When we moved into the house there was a rather dated lantern in the porch which you turned on and off from within the house… so about as useful as a chocolate teapot. I decided to put a smart bulb in it to make it a bit more useful, however when I put my bulb of choice a TP-Link LB110 Smart LED Bulb I discovered by the time you had included the screw in to bayonet adaptor the shade would no longer fit.
So off I popped to B&Q to find a new shade, this shopping trip resulted in the shade you can see in the picture above however the height of the bulb still mean that you could see the bulb holder showing through the gap in between the base and the bulb. The solution was to 3d print a cowl to cover the bulb hold and generally tidy the whole thing up. The cowl was designed in Windows 3d Builder, in essence it was a simple tube to raise everything up and printed on my Anet A8.
Once put together I was pretty happy with the final effect, and when it was combined with the rest of the smart home elements it is far more useful. It now turned on on a timer or when we approach the house and can even be triggered from Amazon Alexa when scrabbling for change for Just Eat.
